SnowTube Custom Video Website November 2011


Spincaster designs a great website for Omega Communications at Big White Resort.

SnowTube is a new website designed for the ski hill enthusiast. Whether you are boarding, skiing, snowshoeing, skating on the pond or just hangin’ out in the snow, the site allows you to upload a short video clip and share it with friends and family. Kind of like a YouTube channel but with a twist.

The real cool feature on SnowTube is in the ability to view top videos on the local cable station at Big White Ski Resort. This allows the videos to be streamed to a TV channel. You can simply turn on the TV and watch your latest 360 or terrain park move on the big screen!

Spincaster developed custom software for this application that is referred to as software as a service (SaaS). This included the ability to create user accounts for people wanting to upload and manage their videos. We also created a custom software control where the editor of SnowTube can approved or veto new videos that have been submitted for viewing. The site also features different ways to sort and filter videos and shortcuts on the homepage that show top clips.

The upload and conversion software for video was also part of the overall software development. Unlike YouTube where you post your original video to their servers and then go and reuse the video on your site, (often with the YouTube player advertising their stuff) Spincaster developed a custom Video upload tool that puts the video directly onto the SnowTube Site. No third party integration of software or licensing fees required.

There is an excellent custom website design for the SnowTube website as well. Featuring a great and easy to navigation layout and clear and simple tools for managing your list of videos.
